Walther P5 ( or P5 Compact)

For my next firearms purchase I am considering a used Walther P5.

I have a very nice P1, and I enjoy the quality of the pistol, and for me it has been 100% reliable, and very accurate. It's too large for comfortable concealed carry, but great for a nightstand gun.

I understand that the P5 is basically an "improved" P38/P1, and I wonder if it too is too large for concealed carry. I've never held one, or seen one other than in pictures, but they seem to have a great reputation for quality, so I think I'd enjoy having one.

Any input, suggestions would be appreciated.

    I have always wanted a P5, but find them too pricey compared to what else is out there in the market. They are more rounded than the P1/P38, but the size is about the same. They are single stack, with 8 round capacity. For the same money you could buy a Sig, and have a good amount of money left over.

    I have a P5 and use it as a carry gun when I don't have my Browning with me. The main reason I got one is that it has no safeties and I am left handed.

    It is a little thick, but considering it has a 3 1/2" barrel, mine is very accurate.

    At one time it seemed that they were dumping them for between around $450, but I guess those days are gone.

    As for concealed carry, it depends on how you plan to carry and what you are wearing. It would not be my first choice if I was not wearing a jacket or vest.
