Thompson SMG Parts Kit
I just about have a complete collection of WWI and WWII rifes and was wanting to build a Thompson dummy gun from a parts kit and dummy reciever. I see them sometimes on Gun Broker for $600 and up. Is that the best I can do? Also anyone know of a really good replica and where I can get it I checked Ebay and they are all paintball of cap guns. I have a good replia MP40 that makes a great display piece but all I can find are resin replia Thompsons.

If you want a really good replica of a Thompson, then check out Kahr Arms website, it's a real gun and it's expensive but it's about as close as you are going to get.

Ebay has a "no guns" policy, so you won't find one there- even a dummy. I just bought a 1928A1 TSMG parts kit from Sportsmans guide and was totally satisfied. As a member of their buyer's club, I paid $630 for the kit. It is NEW, unfired with only very minor dings from storge/handling. Contains all the parts but as expected- there was no receiver, only the front inch or so that is still attached to the barrel. These guns are coming out of Russia. During WW2, we sold Stuart light tanks to the Russians. With each tank went a Thompson, which was the weapon issued to tank commanders. However, we didn't send any .45 ammo, so the Russians never used them and they've been in storage ever since. I also bought the dummy receiver from Sportsmans Guide ($135), but was a bit disappointed in that. Although it is dimensionally OK, and has a decent finish and engraved markings, there is no provision for mounting the barrel- there are no threads in the barrel cavity. The Thompson barrel has square threads and it requires some special machining to put these threads in the receiver. My local gunsmith wanted $200 to do this, which I think is ridiculous. I'm presently looking around for another way or a better price to thread the receiver and mount the barrel. Anyone out there got suggestions? 0 -
