pistol team

i recently got hired as a bucks county Pa. Correctional. there is a pistole team that i am eligible for once i finish training

i am very interested in joining this team once i get finished with the training, but i am told that you have to shoot revolver. . . . does anyone know a good not to expensive revolver for this type of activity.

i am pretty sure it is limited to .38/.357

P.S it also gives me another excuseto buy yet another firearm he he he

i personaly do not beleive that you need to carry an anti tank rifle for personal protection.

it doesn't matter how big your gun is, it's what you do with it when it counts :)

    Model 14 S&W if you can have a 6 inch barrel 38 special. Nothing I know of shoots better.

    Buy a used Smith & Wesson Mdl 10 HB (heavy barrel), .38 caliber

    These guns are great for basic marksmanship, PPC type shooting.

    I assume you are talking about PPC courses or something similar. There could be a lot of variations in the course of fire and the guns and type of guns allowed. Check with someone that shoots it first before you buy anything. But, the "normal" police qualification/practice/competition matches that I have shot in are: 38 special only with target loads (wadcutters) with 4 or 6 inch barrels (usually 6) at 25 yards or less. Our monthly course of fire is at 3, 10, 15, and 25 yards.
    Any good 6 inch 38 special revolver with adjustable sights would be fine to start with. 38 wadcutters are best with semi-wadcutters next.

    thanks for all the info guys . .. the Lt. that is in charge of training te new cadets uses a 6 inch barreled S&W 686 and he is a distinguihed expert in the NRA and qualifiedinstructer so i think that onece i finich training and he time comes to sign up i will go get a good 686

    you never told us what youd be shooting at or if its dbl or sgl action...? double action, get a colt, single action stick to 4" bbl. they point faster. if youre not shooting target scores, you wont need an adj rear sight.

    i am not entirely surewhat type of shooting it will be.

    part of my training was a tour of the armory. the Lt. in charge of training and subsequently also in charge of the pisto,l team showed us bullseye targets so it could really be any type or mix of shooting

    i was going to go with the 6" barrel dueto the fact it is more accurate

    15 or 25yd range? indoor or outdoor? if its gonna be a whole bunch of different ranges. make sure that whatever you get it has adjustable rear sights.
