243 reloading??? VLD?
hi, im still waiting for my 243 barrel, from shilen. its a 1-10" twist, so i was planning on using the berger VLD 95gr. bullet. will this fit in a mauser '98 action? im not sure how long the bulets and all will be in the magazine but they look and sounds pretty good.

If it is any sort of standard mauser action, you will have almost 1/2" of extra mag well to work with. the regular mauser large ring long action takes 3.25" loads easily.

You will have plenty of room to load the .243 so the the bullet is clear out to the lands or however you set it up with your gunsmith in a Mauser full length action. They are made to accomodate a case that is about 1/4" longer than the .243 and with a much longer bullet.
I have heard also on this forum that VlD's can be loaded right up into the lands. Check that with folks here who regularly shoot VLD's though as I don't want to steer you wrong there. For that you can also look up Berger Bullets online and see what they say about loading their bullets out into the lands. I think it's a great combination shooting .243's out of a Mauser actioned rifle. -Good luck
