another scope question
I just picked up another rifle....an 06 that Im planning on taking the vx 1 3x9x40 off my tikka and putting it on the 06
so what do you think of a fixed power scope like a vx II fx 6x36 for my .300wsm?

If all of your shots are going to be 150+ yards, it will probably work fine. However, if you need to quickly get your sights on something closer than that, your field of view will be limited.

If I were going fixed power, I would get a 4x. A 6x will work fine, though, about 99% of the time. Quick shots, in cover, at short range is where a 4x is better. A 3-9 or a 4-12 carried on the lowest power is what I prefer. Of course, a Leupold is always a great choice.

The fixed power will certainly save you some money, but I personally would put it on the .06 and leave the .300 with the variable. I rarely have a scope dialed above 4x except at the range, but I tend to buy 1.5-4.5x or 1.75-6x variables. 0 -
It depends on your hunting or shooting distances, your pocketbook etc. I bought a Bushnell Elite firefly 3-9X50 last year and I love it, for foul weather it surpasses the Leupold Vari X III. Thanks Mac[8D] 0 -
that variable...on that rifle....this weekend produced consistent 3/4MOA groups....I wouldn't touch that scope/gun combo for anything at this point.....I think I found a good deal on a Nikon buckmaster 4x40 for the 06
