I've got a chance to purchase a 1944 Springfield M-1 for $350 with bayo.
Comments, yay or nay?
I havn't seen the rifle yet so can't comment on condition but I would like to be a little forarmed, so to speak.

for $350.00, I'll buy it unseen. You really can't go wrong at that price, short of it being in the ground for the last 60 years.
I would be a little suspicious of why they are cutting it loose so cheaply though. If it is someone you know and trust, jump on it.

IF it has a good barrel & a sound USGI stock, it's difficult for you to go wrong at that price.
Be sure to have a cleaning rod, bore light, & muzzle wear gauge when you look at it. (If you don't have a MW gauge, use a poor man's gauge: a single round of USGI M2 .30-06 ball inserted point first in the muzzle --- measure how much copper jackets shows: 5/16"=new barrel, 1/4"= excellent, 1/8"=well used, 0=worn out.)

The Civilian Marksmanship Program's price for a Rack Grade M1 is $350.00, without the bayonet, plus $23.00 shipping. Some of the Rack Grades are pretty nice, and some are , well, rackers. I've bought several of them, and can say that there is quite a spread in that category.
So, if this one is in any kind of condition at all, I sure would buy it. The Blue Sky import thing, mentioned above, is a good caution. Some of the import marks were stamped so hard that the barrels were deformed.
If you don't have access to a throat erosion/muzzle wear gauge, take a military M2 ball loaded round with you. Stick it, bullet first in the muzzle. If it swallows the bullet up to the brass case, there is quite a bit of muzzle wear. If 1/8" or more of the bullet sticks out, it is probably okay. This bullet test is a rough test, and not very exact other than described.

It could be one built from a re-welded receiver. It would be no bargain at all if it's a re-weld. That was a common practice for building them in the 1960's. They would take two receiver halves and weld them together. You need to be careful of that.
