Scope Base--What Kind?

I bought a used rifle that has a one-piece base on it. On the side, it has crosshairs with a capital R in the middle. Is this a Redfield base?? The guy at the store said it was a Leupold, but I thought Leupolds have the name engraved on them.

Also, any thoughts on whether one or two piece bases are better. How about double dovetail bases?

  They would be Redfield.

  Your base is a Redfield.Whether Leupold or Redfield made it is really moot as they look about alike and the rings they accept are interchangeable.
  Experiments have shown that the difference in strength between 1 piece and 2 pc. bases is nil,it amounts to which looks better or neater to you.
  Dual dove tail types are very neat looking when installed especially with 2 pc. bases since you dont have attaching screw heads sticking out and they are very strong. With them you lose the windage adjustment of the attached by screws rear ring, that's the trade-off. Most everyone has their own preference and individual ideas about how they want their scope mounted and its hard to put a best "method" statement out. What ever works for you is okay.
