Mosin nagant? No serial number....

I recently picked up a russian M44 with no import marks, that has not serial # on the receiver. The barrel date matches the rec date, the serials on the BBL, floorplate, and bolt match. What gives? Did Ivan not serial his receivers. Out of curiosity I checked my other MN's and the only SN's on them were applied by Century in electro-pencil.

  THE RUSKIES ONLY PUT THE SER. # ON THE BARREL (SAME AS EARLY BROWNING BAR'S), WHEN INPORTED THEY HAD TO BE REMARKED ON THE RECEIVER ALSO.

  Some countries consider the barrel to be the firearm, others (like the US) consider the receiver to be the firearm.
