blueing ?
As soon as I find a competent gunsmith where I now live I would like to get a 1911 reblued. I don't have any experience having a gun reblued, and I would like a good factory quality job. Is there something special I should ask for and what should I be looking to spend on it.

Well, if you want a factory quality job with a durable and beautiful finish then I suggest finding somebody that can "hot blue" your 1911. Otherwise, for durability I'd suggest parkerizing.

If your 1911 is an original military with collector value I would not reblue it as the value would be lowered.Collectors want them original as possible.
If its a parts gun or commercial model without collector value any experienced gunsmith with a hot blue system should be able to do it for you. There are plenty of places that advertise in the trade mags and classified ad journals that can blue or Parkerize it for you.
