Modified 870 Express Questions

I bought an 870 Remington Express 12 guage today from my local pawn shop. I believe someone has customized it quite a bit. I assume for police work. Is this a factory job or aftermarket? Your opinions on this gun, including value will be appreciated. Thanks! The stock is black synthetic, otherwise looks pretty standard. The metal is dark gray parkerized, there is an extended mag tube under the ported 18 1/2 inch smooth bore barrel. It has a large sling attachment on it (mag tube)labeled Scattergun Technologies. The barrel is labeled "Cylinder" but it has screw-in choke tubes.It came with a modified tube. The rear sight is an adjustable ghost ring and the front is a tall blade with a tritium insert. The chamber is for 2 3/4 and 3 inch shells. If I put an extra full choke in the barrel, how would it be for turkey hunting? Almost forgot. the magazine follower is lime green in color. The gun's condition is about 98%. I normally wouldn't have bought a tactical shotgun, but today they ran a sale with all long guns 50% off regular prices and I couldn't leave without it.

    One way to find out is to SHOOT it with your turkey choke. That short of barrel I would go with #4 or 5's
    1 shot is all ya get so make it a " SUREKILL " (T/C Encore-/-Contender/ MATHEWS SWITCHBACK Shooter)

    It sounds like you bought a Scattergun Technologies modified 870. ST is part of Wilson Combat and they build awesome shotguns. The basic model (which includes a Surefire light forearm) sells for about $1000 I think.

    I have a Winchester Defender with an 18" barrel. I had the barrel threaded for winchokes. This gun shoots tight with .660 or .640 turkey chokes. Don't let the short barrel fool ya.. it is all in the choke. BTW I have won $$$ and meat at stillboard shoots with this gun. When the shooters see it they laugh until they see the results.

    Thanks to all for the replies. I will pattern my shotgun this weekend to see how it does with an xtra full turkey choke. I looked at the Scattergun Technologies web sight, my gun is almost identical to their "Border Patrol" model, missing only the large head safety to be the same. In addition, mine has the screw-in choke system. Which choke tube usually works best with 00 Buckshot? I have the modified one and am buying a turkey choke today. I will try the #6 shot first as I have lots of it in the 3 inch length with 2 oz loads.
