SW1911 8+1...or not
Have a new SW1911 45acp supposedly 8+1, problem is that when you chamber the first round then try to replace the mag after loading #8 there is a great deal of difficulty getting the mag all the way into the pistol. same thing happens if the slide isn't back if you're just loading 8. was thinking of putting a lighter mag spring in but wanted to ask before i did it.

Hello Pa it sounds like you have "BOTTOMED OUT" the follower in the base of the magazine . I dont think you have enough room to do what you are trying to do . If you must have more rounds than standard get a 10 round magazine.the diameter of a loaded round is about .470 X 8 =3.760 inches plus the follower and the compressed spring plus .050 for the base and you can see you dont have any space left.with the slide closed on a round the portion of the slide that would pich up a round on the forward travel has to move the top round in the magazine down and you don't have the room. I appreciate the advice and i was thinking of going with a 10 rnd if for nothing else then just to not have those 2 rounds left in the box

I would have to agree with perry, too many rounds in the magazine.

I see this happen on new mags, load them to full capacity, then leave for a few days, also this problem is common if you do not tap the mag and make sure the rounds are fully towards the back, the top one becomes springy and does not allow the mag to be seated properly, this is the most common problem I see it often with a simple solution 0
