stuck scope screws

Went to swap out a scope today and the allen head screws are starting to strip. They aren't totally gone yet, but I gave up so I could get some advice. What is a good way to break them loose and how do I prevent it in the future. Is there a better type of head oout there?[?]

    I've had the same problem. I had to get a set of metric allen wrenches, and one of them fit well enough to get them out.

    Believe nothing you hear and only half of what you see !!

    take your wrench and insert it in the screw,..and then give it several FIRM raps with a hammer. Then retry lossening them. By compressing the threads, you can often get them loose without stripping them.

    why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

    Sears sells a set of relatively cheap ezy-outs that work pretty good. Another approach is to get some JB Weld and put a dab on the tip of the allen wrench and then put in in the hole in the screw. Just be sure you only get the JB Weld on the wrench and the screw. Let it set up for an hour or two and it should come right out. If it doesn't, simply repeat the process. Best of luck -- Steve

    I have put them in a freezer overnight and then when I removed them from the freezer put some eezox or penetrant and worked 90% of time. If in a hurry just take a drill press and drill top part of screw off. Good Luck.[:)][:)]

    Easiest way to heat them is with a small electric soldering iron. This will usually break the loctite free.
