Old double Ithaca 10 Gauge value ???
It is a "New Ithaca Gun" 10 gauge double SxS with 32" damascus barrels and exposed hammers. Wood is very clean, barrels have no dents. Bores are clean. Action works good. I can't find anything to compare. Thanks,

Hello Pete,
What is the serial numbner on that old Ithaca? The serial number will tell me which specific Model it is, and approximately when it was made. After we determine that, we can move on with putting a value on it.

The gun would appear to be a Crass model made c.1900. I'd expect damascus construction and the 10ga. may be worth a slight premium.
Your post leaves it unclear whether this gun rises to collector status, or is just a well-kept shooter. Obviously this creates a problem when trying to guess at a fair value.
From a shooter's standpoint I'm seeing a rather large-bore double only safe to shoot with black powder loads. For this I might guess in the $300 range and maybe something extra for being a 10 bore, but not all that much. (I'm assuming a plain field gun.)
If the gun achieves collector status due to condition, then the value could easily double that of a shooter.
Either way it's a matter of finding a buyer interested in your gun. At that point the real value will be what's offered and what you're willing to accept.

Ditto to what old nord has provided, and I will add one bit of important information that he was extremely lax[:I][}:)][:D] in mentioning... your old Ithaca is either chambered for 2-7/8-inch shells or possibly 2-5/8 shells, which are much shorter than modern 10 gauge shells.
The actual condition (how much of the case colors are left on the frame) and the grade will determine the value. Take a look at the left side of the water table, and look for a stamped numeral or letter above the gauge stamp. If possible, post a few photos of it (or send them to me).

I happen to have an old box of 2 7/8" shells. There are only 7 rounds left in the box. Comment by Bert H, reminded me of them. These are smokeless powder and don't know when these were made or discontinued. Anybody know?

My guess is that box of shells originated in the late 1960s. I believe that the 2-7/8-inch 10 gauge shells were discontinued about the same time that Ithaca introduced their Mag-10 autoloader in the 1970s. The shells that you have are not advisable for use in any of the old SxS scatterguns, especially those with damascus barrels, but they are fine for use in the NID 10 gauge SxS guns.

It is not mine yet........The gentleman I am trying to buy it from wants a little too much green backs for me and I was wondering if maybe, perhaps it was worth what he is asking. Unfortunatly, he will have to come down for me to take ownership.
