I can't remember what the parent cartridge for the .247 Wthby Magnum is, please refresh my memory. I know it's approx the same lenght as a 30-06, but larger diameter'

I just picked up a Stevens 20 ga, I can't find a model on it, it's marked

The Barrel is marked 20 gauge.

To the best of my knowledge Weatherby never made a 247 cartridge, unless it was an experimental.
Do you mean a 257 Weatherby Magnum? If you mean the 257 WM, it is based on a blown-out and necked down 300 H&H Magnum case.

As I recall (now) ALL the Wthby Mags were based on the 300 H&H cases, thanx for jogging my memory!

Actually, the .378 Weatherby and larger are a proprietary larger size with a rim diameter of 0.582" and slightly longer than the H&H cartridge case.
And the .240 Weatherby has the '06 rim of .473 and '06 case capacity.

I will have to read more of the Wthby history stuff, I thought I recalled reading that pretty much all the Wthby Mags were based on the 300 H&H case, although this would've been a few yrs ago.0 -

Hi,
Just to provide a little insight.
The 378 Weatherby is an original cartridge design from Roy Weatherby dating back to 1953 and is not based on any pre-existing cartridge.
Dimensionally and appearance wise, it is most similar to the 416 Rigby.
