I keep most of my ammo in cabinets in the garage and my wife asked me today how that might effect our home insurance coverage in the event of a fire which ignites the ammo. I have never really given that any thought. I figure by the time the ammo explodes, the gas in my cars will have already blown the garage into the next county! But ammo storage might void coverage or limit the coverage.

I will check with my insurance agent this week, but I'm curious as to your thoughts

    This is a great question! Most of my gun collector friends have thousands of rounds in their homes

    I don't think it would matter unless you were violating some storage laws (like for gunpowder). I would think that a garage is not the best place to store ammo or components...too much temperature variation. I usually store both ammo and components in my cool dry basement and ammo usually is stored in ammo cans as well. Just my opinion...

    Related to this issue, what is a persons liability in the event of a fire that might set off ammunition in your home or apartment? What does the fire department do in a case of responding to a fire at a building where there is ammunition? For example, I live in an apartment building, there's a fire in someone else's apartment but we're all evacuated from the building. Should I go up to a fireman and tell him I have ammunition in my apartment? What happens then?
