Katrina Damage - Need Gunsmith Slidell, Louisiana

Hey folks, my boss had four feet of water in his house in Slidell Louisiana and the saltwater got to a few guns.

The one gun that needs a gunsmith is a 10 gauge exposed hammer double barrel shotgun, that is a very sentimental wall hanger. It used to be grandpa's grocery getter and now in not so good shape. It just needs some rust removed, some stock fixing and possibly a quickie blueing so it'll look o.k. hanging on the wall. It's essentially a non shooting gun to begin with, so all the details don't matter.

If anyone knows anyone in that area who could help with this task, please post up so I can get the information to him.

And ummm yeah, it'll also help me brown-nose.

    hey Booger, I'm not in LA but Callaghan , VA. Have restored (2) basket case Wm Moore 10ga Hammer guns recently...would be happy to help. One was in Oregon and the other Arkansas. Sounds like a Wm. Moore...

    Question for you and I apoligize for asking here, but you will see why. I have an Aunt in Slidell. My mother has not been able to contact her. How bad was Slidell hit?

    db - Slidell was hit pretty hard, the storm surge seems to have done most of the damage, as opposed to wind or falling trees. I'll bet your Aunt is o.k. but as you have discovered, communication is nil. Structurally most things are standing, just got flooded, so pretty survivable, unlike Gulfport, Biloxi, Bay St. Louis etc. all in Mississippi where it's just a concrete slab and piles of lumber.

    MM - Thanks for posting up, when things calm down I'll see what he wants to do. I need to just go get the gun from him and deal with it 'cause he's up to his neck in snakes and alligators with this being one of 10 jillion problems.

    I used a gunsmith in Lacome last year. I used to live in Slidell but was moved to Atlanta 2 weeks prior to the hurricane. I think Lacombe may have been spared but it is fairly close to Slidell. The gunsmith normally works on offshore oil rigs so he may or may not have time. Here is the link...http://www.lacombegunsmith.com/
