1885 Winchester
Bert, this is for you. I was in a gun shop across the river in Hood River Or. today, and put my paws on a 1885 in 32 Rimfire. It's in beautiful shape, probably 85-90%, tang sight(Lyman?). I didn"t know they were made in that caliber. I have 2 Stevens favorite's in 32 Rimfire, one with a 150 # and the other with a 560 #. I would have bought the 85 if it would have been in just about any other caliber, shells are just to spendy and hard to find, probably why it's in such good shape. Anyway I thought you might like to know. Had it been a 32-20 or 38-55 it would have come home. W.D.

I recently picked up my first antique Winchester. It is a low-wall Model 1885 in a 25-20 S.S. caliber, and has a #1 octagon bbl. Anyone else have one? I haven't see many discussed here or on the other sites in this caliber. I really like the gun and could use some help with values. This could also be habit-forming, even though I have never been much into the old stuff! HELP!! 0 -

The only 1885 I have is a Winder Musket in .22 short. It isn't as valuable as most 1885's, but is is a hoot to shoot.

Very nice choice for your first antique Winchester[^].
I also own a low-wall in 25-20 S.S., and it is a fine shooting rifle. Due to the fact that the 25-20 S.S. cartridge has been obselete for 75 years or so, it requires you to be a reloader if you want to shoot it. I have two friends that both really like the 25-20 S.S., and between the two of them, they own (18) Winchester Model 1885 rifles in that cartridge. Winchester manufactured approximately 7,100 of them in 25-20 S.S. (mostly low-walls), and it was the second most popoular centerfire low-wall.
For what it is worth, I am currently in the process of writing a new reference book specifially about the Model 1885 Single Shot (including the Model 87 Winder Musket). I have a large database of information that I have compiled in my research, and I would like to include your rifle in my database. If you are interested, please contact me through my profile, and I will send you a survey form (this offer is open to anyone else that would like to learn more about their own Model 1885 single shot). As a member of the Cody Firearms Museum, I have access to the original factory ledgers (serial numbers 1 - 109,999), and will provide a copy of the serial number research information if desired.
I will need to see pictures of your rifle, and also get the statistical data on it before I can give you an accurate value estimate.

Newbie here. Been reading this forum forever but after seeing all the 1885 info from Bert H. figured it was time to register.
I have been wanting an 1885 and/or 1895 for a while now but would opt for a newer one like the Uberti for the price and not having to worry if I am gonna hurt it when shooting.
Is there anyone in the Dallas area that has either 1 of these and wouldn't mind letting me shoot it? I would pay for your range fee and of course my own rounds. Just want to check it out before starting my search for one.0
