Ultra mags

Just looked at a SAKO 75 in a 300 ultra mag SS. Priced around the 950.00 range. Should I keep looking maybe look at a 300 WBY say the vanguard SS. I am looking for a 30 cal that is very accurate right out of the box. If you believe the ballistic tables both are very simular. After doing some checking SAKO no longer makes this gun in that caliber. Some say the 300 ultra is on its way out,,if that is true what becomes of the gun value and ammo? Also any thoughts to if I buy the Sako 300 ultra how about a scope recomendation.

    Accurate out of the box for???
    A. Normal hunting (0-350yd)
    B. Middle distance hunting (300-800yd)
    C. Long Range hunting (700yd and up
    D. Target, 6ooyd and closer
    E. Target, 600yd and further

    Unless you mean C and/or E, stick with the 308Win class cartridges/rifles.
    If you mean C and/or E, you don't want a box rifle anyway.

    Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.

    Buy it! Have a friend who is shooting a 6" group at 1000 yards with that gun in a .30-378 (close to the same gun). I didn't even realize it was possible until I seen it.

    The RUM has replaced the wthby,..no doubt about it. there is the 300win and then there is the 300RUM. The RUM's are very accuracate in every example I Have worked with.

    why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

    I have been told SAKO 75 is a very good gun,,,any thoughts to the 300 ultra mag going away. I guess if ammo gets scarce I could make my own.

    I shoot a Remington 700 SS/S 300 RUM. It isn't going anywhere soon. It and the 7mm RUM are here to stay.

    I can get you a very good deal on a Remington Sendero (HB) UM...much better than the Sako's price tag. They are also very good shooters.

    The Sako 75 SS is the best factory gun made in my opinion. I have one in the 7mm Ultra. Smooth as silk, accurate, adjustable trigger between 2-4 pounds with little effort and the stock is great. The vanguard is probably the best buy for the money but there is a noticable difference in quality.

    I have seen the Sako 300RUM listed for around $800 so the price is a little high. I paid $699 for 75SS and it came with the a free Burris Landmark spotter. If you are looking for a scope I would say a Burris Black Diamond or Burris Signature with the mil dot reticle. Both are very clear and built strong. The Sako 75 was discontinued in the 7mm RUM, 7mm STW and 300 Ultra so all three are lower priced when you find them. The guys at the sports store I shop at all bought the Sako 75's when they discontinued making these calibers.
