1100 Rem LT vs LW

I am so confused. Can someone set me straight? I have a small-receiver 20 Ga LW that takes a barrel with a long extension. How/where can I get a screw-in choke barrel and a rifled slug barrel?...anywhere?

    I am not sure where to tell you to get a standard barrel for this gun but I do know that you can get a Hastings slug barrel for the LT model and have a gun smith do a small simple modification to it to make it fit perfectly on the LW.

    I have a slug barrel but it says "Special" on my LT 20 guage. Where does this fit into the equation? I might add that I have an English type stock on my gun.

    I dont know about the Special but I do know you are not going to put a LT barrel on a LW with just a little modification,they are not even close to the same animal,the Lt has a long tang,the Lw is only an inch or so long,if you could even make it work you would have too grind or cut inches off of the Lt barrel tang to even get it into a LW reciever mudt less make it fit and work

    All I know is there is a gunsmith in york PA that offers this service for about $50 I beleive is the price. I know it is different but he claims that he can mod the barrel to make it work just fine.

    That is why I am confused sharpshooter...I have an LW receiver but the barrel extension is long. As long as a standard 1100. Maybe an LT will fit mine...some goofy engineering change in mid-production. A mis-marked receiver??

    I got the gun used and have no history on it. It wears a mag-na-ported skeet barrel now.

    Your small-receiver twenty that takes a barrel with long extension is a post 1977 LT-20.

    Most LT-20 barrels have LT stamped on them - does yours?

    JJ's LT-20 Special Field (english stock) was produced a dozen or so years ago and has a reduced magazine capacity - therefore "Specials" do not interchange with other LT-20's.

    For what it's worth - Gander Mountain will convert a LT-20 (long extension) to a LW-20 (short extension) for $75 - so it's probably not that difficult.

    To answer your question, your existing barrel can be shortened beyond the magnaporting to the next rib support and then reamed and threaded for screw in chokes. Look up Colonial chokes on the web.
    You don't need magnaporting on an 1100 20 gauge.

    [8D] I knew there was a shop that offered that service but couldnt remember which one. Thanks for that info!!!!! I am now going to order the hastings barrel and have them do the mod so I can start useing my dads 1100 LW. My god what an amazing gun!

    Now that is some handy info to get a screw-in choke system on the barrel. It wears a 26" ported barrel now. It would end up being a 23" barrel though.

    No, my barrel is marked as a LW and so is the receiver. As stated earlier in the post-must be a post 1976 (1977). After the re-design of the action but before the new name/re-designation as the 'LT'.

    You hit the nail on the head. Remington made cosmetic changes to the LT in 1979 - including emphasizing LT.

    Does your gun have a double radius (larger at the rear) ejection port and a mahogany stock?

    I think if you watch the auctions you will be able to make a good deal on the barrel(s) you seek.

    Mine was cut to 25 1/2" in order to get to thick enough wall for the Colonial thin wall series. Mine started out as a 28" barrel.
    Being a VR barrel, the gunsmith couldn't cut between rib supports unless he added an intermediate rib support.
    I question whether the presence of magnaport holes is an issue in reaming and threading for the chokes. I believe the issue is what the outside diameter and wall thickness is in the last 1.6" of your barrel.
    This question could be put to Colonial or other makers of 20 gauge .675x44 double lead thread chokes.
    Modifying your existing barrel should be $100 cheaper than buying a new barrel and spending $75-100 to fit it to your gun.
