Oberndorf Value ?

Have an old Rifle (Commercial Sporter)says Waffenfabrik - Oberndorf , really a light little rifle , caliber is 8x57JS, has a Lyman rear sight , some one said it was a Lyman 35 ? Serial numbers all match , think it was made around 1912 - 1913 - Im not a collector and was just looking an 98 Action when I bought this Rifle , but now im thinking of selling this Rifle to help finance a new purchase , but have no idea of how much it would be worth or where to start it , any help would appreciated.

    depends on cond. and extras (solid rib barrel, d. set triggers, ext.), in average cond and none of the above about $400/500

    My 2?, value would depend greatly on if it's a original commercial Mauser sporter or reworked/sportized military rifle.

    If you can't provide photos, give us a description of all manufacturers markings and proof marks on the rifle. If it's an original commercial Mauser, it would be worth substantially more as long as it's factory original.

    Nice looking rifle but I think it has military action due to the thumb cut in the left side of action . nice floor plate and dub. set triggers spoon bolt handle.and long reach to pistol grip.

    The "Crown U" is a commercial proof mark. Generally its found together with a "Crown B" as definitive proofs for firearms proofed in finished condition. It was last used in 1939, when the nazis changed the German proof laws.

    I believe your rifle was originally a military rifle that was sporterized into a commercial rifle by a German gunsmith. Note the stippling on the top of the receiver. This was customarily done to obscure the original military markings.

    NICE LOOKING RIFLE, LIKE THE OTHER SAIDS IT PROBABLY IS A REWORKED (WW 1) MIL. RIFLE STILL IN THE $400 PRICE RANGE. BTW, MOST IF NOT ALL GERMANCOMMERCIAL M-98 MAUSERS HAD THE 'THUMB CUT' IN THE SIDE OF THE RECIEVER.

    Well that answers my question's on the Value the Rifle , since it is only in the $400 range and not a collector item it's off to the Gunsmith in a few Months for a little re-work as it will make a fine carry Rifle for Hunting , will not feel bad about giving it a make- over now - thank you all.[}:)]
