What all will a Marlin .22 magnum 'take down'? Thanks!

    I have been hunting for a year now using a .22 glenfield.I hunt squirrels and have had good luck and quite a bit of fun . I have thought about using a magnum. Could use some comments or suggestions. Would a magnum be to powerful?

    Coyotes out to 100 yds would be a good conservative to start with, rabbits and relative sized rodents out to 200 yds. The round will shoot relatively flat out to 200 yds it just doesn't have really good bullet performance past 100 yds. Meaning you can hit things it just won't go into things well past 100 yds.. That's what I shoot with mine anyhow, other folks may have different standards for theirs.

    deer with head shots out to 100, illegal, but sometimes you need a tad of quiet. mine goes everywhere with me.

    I'm not an expert, but i did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

    I use mine primarily for jacks and prairie dogs. If I had a "can't miss" shot around 50 yards on a coyote, I'd be tempted, but I rarely even have it when coyote hunting. I prefer a centerfire for 'yeller dawgs'.

    hmm alright lol so it prolly isn't a good squirrel hunting rifle, right? Rabbit? It'd be perfect for groundhogs though, right?

    I use mine for Grizzly in AK. It adds a little risk to a normal hunt.[:D]

    it is a good squirrel rifle, i thought you pretty much had to shoot them in the head with any 22. never shot any rabbit with it, but they do real well on groundhogs.

    alright, I thought you meant it would be too messy for a shot anywhere else. I haven't hunted much, but I took out a squirrel instantly with a .22 to the chest. Thanks to all for the posts so far and keep them coming!

    You always shoot a squirrel in the eye. They do not have much meat, and you waste it if you shoot them anywhere else. Used that way the .22WMR is fine for squirrel or rabbit.

    I have always found my 22 magnums excellant for varmint/pest control on the farm. Great squirrel hunting and good on coyotes on range out to about 80-100yrds. Racoons,skunks,crow,rabbits,wood chucks,farel cats, have all been taken with ease.
