Can A 38 Super Auto be fired in a S&W 66 357 is the pressure to much?

Thinking about getting a 1911 in .38 Super. How does it compare ballistically with the .357 mag? Good personal defense round?[?]

I picked up one last year .. believe it ran me about $950. It was/is about 97% - small amount of holster wear on the bluing on front leading edges - EXCELLENT shooter! One of my favorite 1911s.
