Accepting payment/Sending gun

Hello,

I just posted a couple of handguns for sale and I am wondering what the common practice is hearabouts as far as exchanging payment for the gun. Is it usual that the buyer will send his/her payment, trusting that the seller will then send the gun(s)? Or, is it the other way around? Or, or, or.....?

I stipulated that I'd take Certified Check or Money Order. I have no ability to accept credit Cards (I'm just a guy selling a couple extra guns).

Your advice would be very appreciated!

    You don't ship the gun until after you've received payment and a signed FFL copy to send it to.[:)]

    You will have to ship the pistols by common carrier (UPS or Federal Express, for a couple). They will require it go by overnight air for which they will charge you $40 or so. A federally licensed firearms dealer can ship it via U S Postal Service at quite a saving. You will have to pay the dealer a fee to ship it but it might result in a net saving to the buyer.

    Plus, you will have to ship from a UPS or FEDEX company service counter, not a package store. Federal law requires that you request "Adult signature required", which is another $5 or so.

    Hopefully, your ad said "Buyer will pay actual cost of shipping by UPS/FEDEX Next Day Air".

    Also, be sure the buyer knows that you are not an FFL holder and that s/he is sure his/her receiving FFL will accept firearms shipped from a private individual. It is legal under ATF regulations (see shipping in above posts), but for COA reasons many FFL's will only receive from another FFL.
