Contender load

I am trying to work up a new load for my 30-30 contender pistol.
I want to use the Nos. 165 gr. Ballistic Tip in the load with IMR 4064 powder. I can't find any data on the 165 gr. bullets, can any one help? I need some powder loads for these bullets and powder.

I have a 16" tapered bbl. just a plain taper bbl. Used for hunting and recoil is not a problem. Might have to go to a 150 gr. BT and hope the added vel. makes up for the needed punch.

    What barrel length do you have.
    Is it ported/compensated,vented?
    Hunting or target?
    How sensitive are you to recoil/muzzle flip?

    I don't use 4064 for my 30-30 Contender 10" bull barrel due to the flash.
    I have used a load of 13.5 gr of Hodgdon 110 to an OAL of 2.56" with pretty good results at 225yds. With the 165 Partitions. Really knocks down the rams decisively and doesn't hurt the targets. Spanks pretty good too.

    I just pulled my old notes and found a starting load of 30gr. of 4064 using the Sierra #2140 165gr. Says here you hear powder crunching as you increase the charge. I treat that as a bad sign.

    You can use a starting load of 26 grains of IMR 4064 with the 165 grain Ballistic Tip's and work your load up from there.
    And for what it's worth......
    I have had excellent luck on deer with the 125 grain BT and AA2460 in a 14" TC.
    Find someone with a 30/30 Ackley reamer if your looking for a new adventure.

    empty clip ,you might try Nosler 125gn balistic tip or Hornady's 130gn spire point.These have worked well for me and the Contenders I've owned.just a thought,Bob.also welcome to the forum and you might try the paintball shooting forum which is now the reloading forum
