209 primers

My buddy just picked up a Traditions pursuit 50 cal that shoots 209 primers. It doesn't call for anything in particular and I have every 209 primer made... I was going to give him a hundred of whatever?
What about magnum 209's?

    I wouldn't try magnums. You don't need them anyway. I think the standard is Winchester 209's, but lately I've been shooting the Remington Kleanbore Muzzleloading Primers. They really shoot well, and there is alot less residue left in the barrel with those primers.

    the hotter primers will move the bullet foreward prior to powder ignition and totaly zap your accuracy. Black powder is fast,..so do a search on some of the cooler primers for shotguns, and choose one of them. my .002"

    I know the savage smokeless will not use anything but the BLUE box win 209 primers. I tried hotter primers and accuracy was GONE.

    why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

    You're right about them Winchester primers in the Savage JustC. I went through that about a week ago, and you steered me in the right direction. I use them Remington Kleanbore primers when using Triple 7 in my Remington muzzleloaders.

    I use the Winchester 209's in my Optima.

    You guys can really tell a difference in bore residue with the Rem Cleanbore primers?????
    I may have to check them out.

    Any more expensive than reg primers??


    Better to carry a pistol and not need it than need a pistol and not have it.

    with black powder,..residue is a given, no primer will help with that. You may be able to use a hot primer to reduce residue,..but I bet it will give poor accuracy. Black powder and equivalents are so fast in their burn rate, a hot primer in not needed.

    why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

    HOT PRIMERS INCREASE RESIDUE IN THIS POOR-MANS C.V.A. WE ALL USE 209 PRIMERS THAT ARE MADE FOR A 410 SHOTGUN. WORKS GREAT AND RESIDUE IS NEARLY NOTHING AND ACURRACY IS GREAT WITH 150 STUFFED IN HER!!!
