BOBSKI?..inertia vs gas...
I have a son that has money for a new shotgun and I'm trying to steer him in the right direction. He enjoys informal Trap and Skeet, as well as high volume shooting/hunting like doves, quail and pheasant. He has almost $800 saved, so he has a lot of good ones within his price range. He like the lightness of a 20GA. and has settled on that bore size. He would love a Browning Citori, but a semi-auto will be best for hunting till he gets a better job than grass cutting.[:)]
He has narrowed things down to 4 models:
1. Benelli Montfeltro
2. Beretta AL-391
3. Franchi AL-48
4. Browning Gold
He seems to like the guns in about that order.
My question revolves around the 4 models above and how they function with light loads as well as how they recoil. Do they fuction well with very light loads? Does the Benelli have problems if it is fired by someone with a slim frame or soft shouldered (kinda like limp wristing a pistol will cause malfunctions)? Does the Benelli inertia system kick more than a typical gas gun or the recoil operated Frachi? He prefers the Benelli, but maybe you have another model in mind that he can look at before buying. Any guidance is greatly appriciated.

All great choices..He could get a nice 48-al and still have some money left for a reloader. 0 -
I went to the Browning with 30" tubes and invector plus for hunting from a gas gun. I have not found myself undergunned by not having the third shot....I've never needed more than two on birds.

Of the four mentioned either a used Browning Citori or a Beretta overunder with selective auto ejectors and no English stock.
In hunting, bulk and/or weight are the enemy.
How often have you had the opportunity of a third shot?0 -
gas before recoil.
american before euro.
get a 'tournament skeet 1100' 20ga with remchokes.
use it to trade up when he can afford a citori or just move into a 12ga semi auto winchester super x model one and he'll be the talk of the town, carrying the best semi auto ever made.[;)]

Skydiver, something else to keep in mind when buying now is that he will probably out-grow it and won't fit him very many years, but make sure it fits him now by having someone who is very knowledgeable about shotgun fit assist you two. "Proper fit means proper hit" and this may be the deciding factor for shotgun choice. 0
