Black Talon ammo

Im curious to know if the black talon stuff is better than the ammo currently available to us civies. Many ammo sales here at GB advertise as being better than the talons. Any truth to that?

Anybody comes through that door, you put two in the chest and one in the head!

    Black Talon is available for civies under a different name. I think it's Lawman or something like that. Black Talon IMHO is just a marketing gimick. I've bought them, shot them and gave them to my dad. Good for home defense but there are better. Btw my dad has Silver tips as his preferred home defense round. They all hit hard and they all kill. Don't think the target will know the diff.[8D]

    Well alot of "what is better" is a matter of personal preference. One thing I did hear was that "they" were going to sue/make it illegal to sell. Winchester said ok, pulled black talon and put out their STX or was it SXT round. The good thing about this was that Winchester looked "good" and the "S" bullet was better then their Talons. I personaly carry Cor-Bon and love it. I know the FBI carried Federal Hydra shoks for a long time and my stil.

    I hear SXT is short for 'same exact thing'. [:)] Just a little redesign in appearance and a more politically acceptable name.

    The Golden Sabre and Gold Dots use the same design 'principles'... but of course they are different and there will be minor differences in performance.

    Basically a HEAVY jacket that require lines of weakness to be designed-in on the jackets interior in order to initiate expansion...because the lead is a harder alloy. Equals a tougher bullet that holds together while expanding.

    Elmer Keith would have loved 'em!!!...probably. He despised the weak jackets and soft lead of the jacketedbullets available to him. That is why he shot a lot of hard cast.

    The old Black Talon loads are pretty much duplicated (except for color scheme) in the Winchester "Ranger" line of ammo. SXT is similar (not exactly, but possibly better, depending on environment). It really comes down to personal taste.

    They are all really about the same, like regular gas from Marathon or from Citgo.
