    Do I have to enter black powder rifles in my bound book...and do I have to do the 4473 on them? ...specifically a Thompson Encore 209X50 Magnum. It is my understanding that regular BP rifles/pistols do not have to be entered and a background check does not have to be performed, but this particular rifle has the capability to accept modern rifle barrels.?.? Thanks

    I would say no to entering the standard black powder firearms but ,yes to the Encore as it takes multiple caliber barrels as well as black powder.I'm sure if I don't have it quite right someone will correct me.[:)]

    Yes the Encore has to be recorded in your log book and a 4473 filled out on it when purchased. I think CVA has a new BP rifle out this year that takes multiple barrels and I am sure it will be the same way as the Encore.



    It is easier to get forgiveness than permission.

    Regular black powder or muzzle loaders do not have to go in the books or have a 4473 filled out to sell. If the reciever can accept a regular cartridge firing barrel , like the Encore then it is considered a regular firearm and must be processed as one.

    Hi, Don't forget about it accepting a 209 primer instead of a cap. As far as I know this is another reason for it to have to be entered into your book and a 4473 filled out.

    Gungirl that is incorrect. I bought my TC Black Diamond which accepts a 209 primer over the counter at Cabela's. No 4473.

    blackpower guns that share the same receiver as a rifle need to be processed as a regular firearm. (T/C Encore, because it will accept a rifle barrel or Remington 700 ML)
