Scope Mounting Problem

I am mounting a 8X32 Burris on a 6BR bullberry barrel. It has a leupold base epoxied and screwed to the barrel. I am using double dovetail Burris Signature rings using number ZERO inserts.

My Problem;
The scope front objective adjusting knurling is just barely kissing the barrel it turns fine and leaves no mark on the knurling. It just barely grazes the very tip of the knurling. This is a 19.5" barrel and very heavy 1" diameter with no taper.

Is it OK to leave it alone or should I put some electrical tape under the lower inserts to raise the scope a few thousandths. I really don't want to go to higher rings. Everything is exactly as I want it now.

    Ok, to begin with, i had the same problem using the same scope and rings when i put it on my fn PBR. I transferred the rings and scope to a remington 700 varmint special 7mm-08. I was able to fix the problem on the FN, but not on the remington. I am using high millet rings and a bushnell elite 3200 5-15x50mm scope. the problem is that i run out of up and down adjustment during boresighting. the scope is all the way topped out and it is one grid above center still. i tried different rings on same scope. had the same problem. tried same rings and a different scope, same problem. changed bases, same problem. also tried the same scope on a different gun and it was centered, but had no adjustment left. i was able to fix it on the pbr by moving the rings into a different slot on the picatinny rail. any suggestions? i really don't want to shim it, but that is all i think i have left to do. thanks

    I will tell you right out front I don't know that scope and its attributes. Burris Signatures have such large lenses that the space available to make adjustments is small, and for the most part you cannot shot a group and adjust to the bulls eye. This may also be true of your Bushnell, though all the Bushnell's I have worked with are cheaper models and have lots of adjustment.

    I suspect part of the problem is the 50mm objective and the high rings required. Being so far from the line of the bore would require greater adjustment than a low ring mounted scope. I think shimming is your only choice.

    i tell you what gskyhawk, you got one you will send me free and you pay for shipping, i will do that. you will also have to include a set of low or medium rings to go along with it, also free of charge. well i guess if you supply the scope, i may be able to find enough pennies to afford a set of millets.

    I'm not an expert, but i did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

    Put a shim (brass or plastic) under either the scope base or within the scope ring.

    all you need to do is switch to a set or Burris zee rings with the plastic inserts. You can add or even subract elevation with the shims, and they leave no ring marks.

    I love my burris signatures for hunting and even target work,..but as He Dog stated, they are low in range of adjustment,..which incidently is the reason I have stayed away from the elites as they lack much adjustment range as well. I think if you shim the burris rings at about a +15-20moa you should be pert near center of your scope adjustment range and will have far more latitude in dial-in range left either up or down.

    Or,..you can switch to a 10moa or 20moa base.

    why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

    it sounds like you are trying to use too much scope for the rifle , it would make more sense to sell the scope you have and use the money to buy a smaller but better quality scope than the one you have , takes care of your problem doesn't it ? gives you a better , newer scope , lower to the bore line so it easier to sight in , gives you a better cheek weld , gives you a stronger mounting system because its lower thus stronger ,, thus my answer to you get a smaller scope

    wasn't meant to be a smart answer, it was in jest, as i took yours. i just refuse to use the smiley faces. it is the quality of the scope that is part of the problem, a cheap scope would have tons of adjustment to work with. and it is only a little over a month old. i will agree with the cheek weld, closeness to bore line, and the strength of the system though. if you do have some free stuff you want to send me, email me.

    well i found out the culprit. had nothing to do with the scope, rings or mounts. the reciever is about an 8th inch lower in the rear than it is in the front. took a level to figure this out, it was pretty unnoticeable until i knew what too look for. why would remington have some sort of problem like this? guess i will have to shim up the rear base.
