Identity Crises:::

I have either a Russian or a Bosnian Model 44 or 48
Under the Crest is marked M-48, however on the side
of the Receiver which is the same piece is marked with
a lot of letters and 44. The 44 is a 7.62x54R the 48
is an 8mm(correct) what do I have???. Bob!!!

    Take a look at Mitchells Mausers ad & see if this is what you have: a Yugo M48.

    It's the 8mm. I bet the letters are PREDUZENCE 44. My spelling is incorect because my books are at the shop. It means "establishment 44" or something similar.

    THE MARKINGS ON THE SIDE ARE THE ARMS FACTORY THAT PRODUCED THE RIFLE, YOU HAVE A M-48 YUGOSLAVIAN (INTERMEDIATE LENGHT MAUSER 98) ORIGINALY CHAMBERED FOR THE 8X57MM MAUSER.

    MIKE WISKEY- The YUGO 48 is what I have.
    P3SKYKING- Your correct the letters are what
    you say.
    NMYERS- Exactley as pictured. The only thing
    are the Model Numbers listed. M-48-10,-20, and
    the -00 I have all these items listed, so which
    one?. Mine is in excellent condition.

    Just remember too, for future reference, many different countries made guns in the same years. For instance, a "38" could be a Jap T38, Turk 38, M38 Mosin, or Carcano 38, all of which take different ammo.
