TC in .223 or .308?

Would like a cheaper round for paper out to 300Yds. I've had
a scoped 7-30 Waters for years but I'm reloading less and in
the field less but I still enjoy shooting it!

Anyone familiar with/use the cheaper .223 or .308 on
their Contender?

    Your decision is simple; .308 can't be had in a Contender. If you want .308 you'll have to step up to the Encore line. BTW, the .30-06 Encore is the way to go...

    what tlen said is correct the 308 is to high a presure round for the contender frame, if you want to shoot 308 then you have to go with a encore ,,, 223 is no problem it comes in all barrel lengths 10, 12, 14 16.5 and 21 or atleast it has at some point , because I've had all but the 12" and still have a super 14, 16 and 21" carbine [8D]

    I had a Contender in .223--a real fine shooter and fun, to boot. Had I not traded it away in a larger deal, I'd still be fond of shooting it. [^]


    Mine was the Super 14"--nice balance without too much forward length, yet made for steady, relatively recoil-free shooting.

    I have a 14' that shoots 1.5" groups at 100 yrd with a 2.5-7 pistol scope. I have not tried 300 yrds[:)]

    longer the better zip, get more spin on that bullet.[;)]

    It all depends on what you are going to use it for. 14" is good out 300 yards and the 21" or 23" are going to be a little better.
