Dective Special
You guys out there are great. The answer to my last question was answered so quickly. One more questions I have two other questions about the Det Special. I have two purchased in the mid and l980's Could on of these be stainless steel or could they be nickel? What is the best way to clean them? Sorry to be so stupid. Thanks Thomas

If your Detective Specials were bought new in the 1980's they're the Third Issue, which was made in blue and nickel.
As far as I know, none of the original Detective Specials were made in Stainless.....only blue, nickel, and hard chrome (4th Issue, Bobbed Hammer). The Detective Special II, in Stainless, didn't come out until 1997.
I don't own any nickle guns, so I'm not sure how you'd clean that finish.0 -
The DS-II, (manufactured in the late 90's), was what became of the original Detective Special after it was discontinued. It is sometimes called the "Detective Special Two" by a few folks. It was made in Stainless Steel but it was NOT a "Detective Special" because of design. There was also a "Magnum Carry" in Stainless which was almost identical to the DS-II but chambered in .357 Magnum.
Detective Specials were made in Nickel Finish but never in stainless.

If you have a nickel gun then whatever you do DO NOT clean the gun with an ammonia based solvent!!! 0
