Black Powder Question
Can anybody tell me if there is any significant difference between the ignitability of Triple 7 pellets as opposed to Triple Seven loose powder. I ask this because as I was shooting the other day, I detected or thought I detected an ever so slight hang time shooting the pellets, and when switched to the loosae powder, there was no hang time at all.

I recently acquired an Investarm SPA .54 caliber percussion black powder rifle. It came with cleaning supplies, powder, caps, buffalo bullets, etc. I have been interested in shooting black powder for a while, but never got around to purchasing a rifle and kit.
Now that I have the equipment, I am in need of some education/training.do you have a favorite book you can recommend for a black powder beginner?

I don't shoot BP but I know a little about explosives. Probably a delay in the flame front. A powder is going to be permeated by the igniting blast of the cap and the flame front will spread from there. The pellet will light on the surface and then spread as the oxidation accelerates.

pellets are a bit slower to ignite. Typically with pellets I try to use a more powerful primer than I do with granulated powder.

I use Triple 7 pellets exclusively in my mz. Maybe I have never paid attention, but I have not noticed a delay between loose and pellets. With 209 primers, I don't think it would make a difference. 0
