Just curious,
Which 22LR factory ammo has the highest velosities?

    I have always assumed that the CCI Stinger was the highest, but maybe something new is out and about that I don't know about...

    It may depend on barrel length but the Remington
    Yellow Jacket has the edge at least in short
    barreled pistols. It's also one grain heavier.
    Based on the velosity tables on the North American
    Arms web site.

    The answer is either Stinger and Quik-Shok, both made by CCI.

    Both of these 22LR cartridges have a muzzle velocity of 1640 fps at the muzzle.

    Doesn't say what the brand is but in the "Bulk Ammo" section of my new Cabela's mag says they sell a .22 Super Maximum. Boasting a Muzzle Velocity of 1,750fps. Also says the Fastest .22lr manufactured today.
    500rds(30gr SP's)-$21.99
    500rds(30gr HP's)-$23.99
    CCi's Stinger/quik-shok shows 1,640fps.

    Better to carry a pistol and not need it than need a pistol and not have it.

    Hello Cody45... they shoot real good in my old high-wall, but it sports a 30-inch No. 3 weight full octagon barrel[^]. I can easily shoot dime sized groups @50 yards with iron sights (well not exactly common iron sights... it has a Lyman No. 5B combination front, and Lyman No. 103 tang sight). With that big 30-inch No. 3 weight barrel, it will accurately shoot just about any type of 22 LR ammo that I feed it[8D].

    I have over a dozen 22's of various kinds -- some are the most reliable in cycling with stingers - some show best accuracy with stingers even over match ammo. And some the worst. Same story with other brands - you just have to try them all. Excepting Aguila - Stingers are the fastest.

    I've had better accuracy with the yellowjackets or Winchester Super-X loads that I shoot than any of the Match ammo that I've shot. Had terrible cycling issues with the match stuff two, in both my Marlin Mod 60 or my Buckmark Target. Anyone else had problems with match ammo? Also anyone else notice a weird smell when shooting match ammo?

    Better to carry a pistol and not need it than need a pistol and not have it.

    All this guy wanted to know, is what is highest velocity 22 LR ammo.
    Mr Sams is the only person who answered his question. The Mexican Aguila stuff is advertised as being over 1700 fps. I tryed some, and went back to CCI stinger.

    I shot a squirrel last year with an Aguila round in my Ruger 10/22 at 50 yds. It took his head clean off. That's a lot more damage than Stingers do.

    The Aguila Super-max are supposedly the fastest, slightly edging out the CCI stingers.

    That doesn't make them the most accurate, but that wasn't what the question was.

    The CCI Velocitors are probably the fastest with a full 40 grain bullet. The extra weight gives them more authority at further ranges; good for hunting.

    I should also point out that all of these .22 LR "hyper" velocity rounds work by using slow burning powders. If you're firing them out of a shorter barrel pistol (as opposed to a rifle), the performance is almost identical to that of a standard round.

    Its completely off topic, but I think the primers used in the Dynamit-Nobel and Wolf match ammo are responsible for that funny smell.
