win mod 77 prob

i just recently aquired a win mod 77 semi .22 rifle (tube fed). problem is that it sometimes wont fire, rim on cartridge gets hit though. also sometimes the cartridge wont chamber correctly, gets hung up at bullet and cartridge going into chamber at edge of hole to chamber. couple of times cycled but spent cartridge stayed in chamber. gun has (-22l. rifle-) on left side of barrel in front of chamber. does this mean long rifle ok, or is it only supposed to use old long type. type of ammo i used is cci long rifle hollow point. should i try different brand.

thanks for advice, i will try all. did want to add that the spacing between th 22l. and the word rifle is spaced further than they would be if they were meant to run together, thats why i questioned the long vs long rifle cartridge.

    Rodas-the first thing I'd try is using a differently shaped bullet; the hollow point shape may be causing the FTF. Don't use .22 longs in the rifle; they probably won't chamber. It's marked for long rifle-longs or shorts would just cause more problems. -Asa

    Probably a combination of two things - dirt/grime and a burr on the chamber mouth caused by dryfiring. That would be where I'd start.
