P Webley & Son 38
Hi guys I havent been on in a while due to deployment to Iraq but iwas homeon leave recently and a friend showed me a handgun he bought for $50. need your help finding the value.
It is a blued Top break revolver made by P Webley and Son, London & Birmingham, on the right side under the cylinder it has the number 16360 and webley patent, under the barrel near the hinge it has the number 360, on the left side of the top strap it says "Mark 3 38" it is in fair condition with a little wear ont the finish like someone carried it in a pocket or purse. the grips are wood and seem to fit the left hand better than the right as there are finger groves and a thumb rest on the left panel. It appears to be a 38 short, Can you folks help me with this? Thanks.

Photos would help.
But, it sounds like a commercial British revolver circa 1900. The Brits would have called it .380, but in the US it's .38 S&W.
I would expect it to sell in the $100-200 range.

Its a bargain at that price. The grips are not original, but the correct reproduction grips can be gotten from vintagegrips.com. Be sure to tell them its for a .380 MKIII, not a .455. 0 -
I didnt have my camera with me when my friend showed me the gun so no pics sorry, ok another question then, if it is a british made ".380" will it fire .380 ammo or only S&W .38?
what is the proper ammo for it? oh and 1 little error the finger grooves and thumb rest are on the right panel not the left.

The original British 380 Cartridge, differs from the 38 S & W dimensionally according to my reference. The 38 Short Colt is the American made cartridge that will chamber in it correctly, not the 38 S & W. Unless the cylinder has been rechambered during the last 100 years.

By the time Webley was making the MKIII, they chambered them for the .38 S&W despite the .380 making. 0 -
