Benelli Nova pump Cont'd

I could be wrong here. After all, I am a "starting member", but it seems to me what I am hearing is that the guys that really love pump shotguns, as I do, rank the Benelli Nova as the best out there. The guys that have an array of Benelli semi-auto's to choose from, Have no kind words for the Nova. I appreciate everyones input. However, I believe I will take advice from the guys that knows the pump gun best and that would be the one's that use them on a regular basis. Not the one's that occasionally play with a pump but primarily use a semi-auto.[:D]

    You have to use what you like. I can't stand pump or SA, I need to have two barrels on my shotgun. The guys I shoot with don't understand how I put up with the recoil, but I guess I'm just use to it. I can't understand how they put up with the movement and the noise of the action. When I shoot a SA that noise throws me off. If you get a Nova, good luck and enjoy it.

    I guess everyone is different in what they are comfortable with and that is fine by me. However, did not know you like the two barrel guns. I have never shot one but have always loved the look of them, especailly the O/U. I would love to own one someday but wouldn't know where to begin on picking one and that is another topic for another day.[:D]

    Please appreciate that you've requested a pretty tall order here. Your asking for a multipurpose shotgun that you can carry up land bird hunting as well as hunt turkeys. I might appear to be an auto fanatic, but in reality 95% of my hunting is upland with a Model 23 Winchester (side by side). You appear to be research minded, and quite frankly this forum is the perfect sounding board for the questions that your asking. At some point your buddies are going to take you to a sporting clays range where your Nova is not going to shine. (If it doesn't perform on a sporting clays range, chances are that you'll be handicapped in the field). My negative opinion of the Nova was supported by a half dozen other proficient shooters who regularly shoot pump guns. They just didn't like it . . . for the reasons I stated in your early posting. Several years ago I watched former world record holder Tom Knapp dust clay after clay with a Nova. As a Benelli spokesman, he put on an incredible show. That sold me on promoting the Nova to a buddy. Suffice it to say, Tom Knapp's performance made the Nova look good. Here's a suggestion for what its worth . . . our local sporting goods store sells the Nova for @$375.00; and routinely allows regular customers to return firearms that for whatever reason don't work out. Normally if you trade up or over, they will allow you return your purchase. It would be great if you could shoot the Nova prior to purchase, and compare it to some other pump guns. If you can't . . . put your hard earned money down, and see if a retail store will accommodate you on a swap after limited use. I'm not unfamiliar with pumps, and regularly carry a 30 year old 870 Remington as a back up on rain days. I have the good fortune of being able to afford a variety of shotguns, and just gravitate to my side by side because I shoot it so well. I realize that your not asking for the ultimate shotgun, but an all around multi purpose shotgun. If the Nova doesn't point well, swing smoothly, or cycle well enough to stay on a moving bird, I think it falls short of the mark as a multi purpose shotgun.

    It works well enough for me, last year I killed my limits both days of opening dove seaon on 2 boxes of shells. It'll just handle things that pretty little SxS just won't do. I've even shot skeet with a prominet skeet champ and made shots that impressed him. Say what you will, but I know this gun inside and out and there is nothing that it can't do.

    I did say bird hunting, didn't I? But, to be perfectly honest, bird hunting is only something that has interested me. I have never been. I live in southern WV and if you do not hunt squirrel, rabbit, or Turkey, there is basically nothing left to hunt here with a shotgun. That is unless ou like to deer hunt with a slug barrel. As far as my buddies taking me to a shooting clay range, I have never been to one and do not even know where one is at. I have never even heard my hunting buddies mention anything about shooting clays. I know this may make me sound inexperienced but, I always bag my fair share of wild game and have been around guns my whole life. So, I know a good gun when I see one. However, I have yet to have a Nova in my hands. All I know is what I am seeing on the internet. I will know more when I go to my local gun store. I appreciate everyone's input in on this. The good with the bad. I am trying to be as discriptive as I can of where I live, what the gun will be used for, and that most hunting area's here are thick, brushy area's. I do this to help everyone give me advice on the best gun for my use. This is my first experience on this forum page and I have found it very useful. I will definitely use again when I am in doubt. very helpful members
