Removing surface scratches

What is the proper way(if any) to remove very light surface (wood)scratches from a gloss finished browning. It seems somone has polished it with a 000 steel wool and made a fine circular mess.

  buff with 0000 steel wool and spray with true oil spray (make sure the stock and air space are dust free). this is the closest I've found to the browning high gloss finish.

  Auto polishing compound, NOT rubbing compound, then a good coat or two of Johnson paste wax.

  Brownells.com has a 4 & 5 F stock polishing compound that will do a very nice job if all else fails.

  This is a grade 2 belgian that is 99% so I need to be quite sure.

  Brownings have a thick acrylic finish. Not an oil or a poly. You will need to polish it out like a clear coat finish on a car. If you rub your fingers on it and feel any little bumps they will show finished. 0000 steel wool, lightly, then what Trapp55 said polishing compound, very fine and a clean rag. then wax.
