Looking for a model 12 in 20ga. or 12ga. made in 1953. What ser. # range would I be looking for?

    Can a winchester model 12 12 gauge 2 3/4" chamber be modified ( have chamber lenghtened) to shoot 3" shells
    The reason i ask is i own a model 12 roit gun (watts commemorative edition[:D]) which is in like new condition. I would like to purchase a extra barrel/ mag,forearm which i see a lot of on ebay. I would like to have a spare duck gun realize the new set up will have to be fitted .What i really wanted was a 12 heavy duck

    Hello Sam,

    Unfortunately, yes, the collector value has been destroyed. Diehard Winchester collectors generally look for and collect specimens that are 100% factory original. You are not going to hurt the value of that old gun any further by modifying it.

    Hello sammashga: well Poly Chokes were an option on Md 12's but not in 1935. So with the Poly Choke and being reblued, there is no collector interest as Bert has said. But there is always a "shooter's" interest. Since "original" length stocks are hard to come by in decent shape, you may not want to cut it. Plenty of "short" stocks out there cheap, usually from $15-$40. Where an original length stock can go for well over a $100 on the parts market, depending on which style it is, and condition.

    I wouldn't have any reservations about making it into a rabbit/quail gun.
