26" or 28" Barrel?? Best length to buy?

I am a novice shotgunner about to purchase a 28 Gauge O/U and I had pretty much decided to buy a CZ with 28" Barrel but after having looked at the Charles Daly offering I am now undecided.

The Charles Daly only comes 26" so I am wondering what I gain/lose if I select the 26"??

  26" or 28" is a personal choice in my opinion. I prefer the 26" as it "points" easily and quickly for me. My hunting/shooting buddy prefers the 28" as he says tha the 26" is too "whippy" for him. He believes he overshoots with a 26". I have the Ruger Red Label in 12, 20 and 28 gauge and all are 26". You should see no appreciable difference in your patterns with either length - again, IMHO it becomes a matter of prefference/choice. Good luck!

  As a novice go with a 28", there will be no difference in the pattern, but it will be easier to aim and follow through.

  I agree with the above. No difference in pattern, just swing and sight picture. Trend seems to be going to 30-32", but I still like the 26-28". 28" is a good starting point for a novice.
  
  Buy the gun that fits you best, that's more important then barrel length for a novice.

  Seb - I normally wouldn't think of a 28ga as a novice shotgun. A twenty is more practical. Many twenties are just as handy, and the shells are a better value.
  
  That said - what do you intend to shot with your shotgun? That will determine the best choice of barrel length.
