Large Object Lens on AR-15 Flat-Top
I have a Burris Signature scope with a 44mm object lens I'd like to mount on a DPMS lo-profile flat-top upper. I suspect I will need a scope riser, but I'd rather not use one if I don't have to.
Any suggestions on how to mount this scope? It doesn't need to be quick disconnect, just sturdy.

Depending on your body and on the eye relief of the scope you might get away with some kind of ultra high see thru type weaver ring. The weaver will attach to the flat top rail, just not as securely as it would to a real weaver base as the slots are too wide. But, on mine I found that this wasn't enough, and I didn't like the risers I tried either. They didn't get the scope foward enough for good eye relief. I ended up making a custom scope mount that attaches to the flat top with a couple of socket head screws. I used a chunk of 6061-T6 Aluminum which I recessed to fit the top of the flat top and extend far enough foward and up to get the rings where I wanted them. The rings attach by way of a couple of simple weaver bases screwed right to the mount. It works great, my eye always goes to the correct position each and every time. 0 -
I've got a 40mm objective variable scope on one of my uppers, mounted on 45 degree offset extenders that give about 1/4" gap between the objective lens housing and a round Hogue free floating handguard.
You don't have to cock your head to look through the eyepiece and the front sight isn't visible.0 -

DPMS has a set of tactical rings that will mount a scope with a 50mm Object lens that they assure me will work. I'm gonna give that a try.0
