Barrel for 870 20ga.

Since I am working nights now my wife and I have decided to get a shorter barrel for the 870 wingmaster 20ga.. She has never shot any of my 12 guages, but she handles the 20 guage pretty well so we want a shorter barrel(in the 18-20in. range) so it is easier to handle in the house. I looked on the auction and all I can find for short barrels, are barrels with sights. I could buy a long barrel and cut it off, but all the long barrels seem to have vented ribs, and if I cut one of those off the rib won't have any support in front. My question is: are the rifle sights silver soldered on, and what kind of mess will I make out of the barrel taking them off?

    IMHO, just leave the front sight on it. It will not interfere with it's use as a home defense arm, and you can put some white paint or white-out on it to help you see it in dimly lit rooms.

    Not a bad idea I suppose. I kinda thought of that, but thought it might be something to snag on stuff. Thanks for the idea, maybe I can get some more input on this thought too?

    you can also cut a v.r. barrel directly on a 'post', you may have to compromise an inch or two on lenght.

    The sights are silvered on and will be more bother than worth to take them off.
    It would definately have to be reblued, or painted afterwards because of the heat involved in the removal.

    Gun control is hitting what your aiming at.
