Any Suggestions? Remington 788

A customer brought in his 788 Remington. The lobe that the trigger assy. is pinned to is broke off. I have the piece of receiver that is broke off. Any suggestions on how to repair?

  have you checked numrich to see if they have the part? can it not be welded?

  I think it can be silver-soldered back together. Welding around the reciever is not recomended because the hardness and strength of the locking system may be affected. The 788 locking lugs are on the rear of the bolt and the cuts for them are very near where it is broken. Take it to someone who is knowledgable about silver-solder they should be able to repair it. Brownells sells a brand of high strength solder that they say will do things like that.
  The heat from soldering is not nearly as hot or intense as welding. If you pack Brownells heat absorbing paste in the reciever and around the outside it shouldnt cause any damage.

  Thanks Mr Cole. I've ordered the low heat solder and the heat paste from Brownells, and we'll see what happens.
