Having chokes installed, Steel ok?
Iowa now makes us use non lead loads for hunting on public grounds. So all of my shotguns are not steel ok(Browning A5, Rem 1100, S&W 1000). I was planing on having chokes installed. My question is if I have them installed would the guns be ok to shoot steel loads in? My remington is a mid 80's 1100 magnum and my Browning is a 50's magnum. The Smith and wesson 1000 auto has factory winchokes so I am not sure on this gun.

It depends on what you are going to shoot. Some chokes allow lead and heavy shot. Colonial Arms and Carlsons make tube for steel . Get a Brownell's and look through it. 0 -
I dont think the A-5 is capable of shooting the higher pressures of steel shot. The cam surface on the bolt lock will sheer causing the firing pin to protrude and it will fire a shell before it enters the chamber.
It is easier to get forgiveness than permission.0 -
My A-5 Shoots steel very will with Briley tubes which I have in all my guns. We have been shooting steel in this state since 1979. Good luck,

To be on the safe side, buy choke tubes that are extended. In these tubes, the choke is beyond the threaded part of the barrel. If the steel shot causes the tube to expand slightly, it will be forward of the threads, thus, not effecting the threaded part of the barrel. Found this out when we shot steel shot and it expanded the tube slightly in the threaded part and made the tube extremely tight and was rather nasty getting the tube out. 0
