M1 Garand; Winchester - Value/History
I have come across the opportunity to buy a "Winchester" M1 Garand. Since I know little about their history and value I thought that I would ask here. I remember that there are many experts on this topic including, the one which comes to mind immediately, Mark Christian.
The receiver is marked Winchester.
It appears from the DD1149 & DD1348-1A forms with the rifle that it was shipped to the gentleman, that I am getting it from, in 1986.
The S/N is 2351807.
It was shipped from the Anniston Alabama Army Depot directly to him.
The DD1149 states that the rifle is "Cond B Ship Rifle Caliber .30 M1 Service Grade W/OE (Safe to Fire) As Is Condition 1005-00-1425, Rifle, Caliber .30, M1"
It has basically sat in his closet since 1986.
What would be a fair price, for both of us, for a Garand like this as described? I'm hoping that I do not have to post pictures. The rifle is in great shape and am sure that it is "as shipped" in 1986.
Can you all tell me something about this rifle, and the value? If you need more info I will try to provide it.

This rifle (well, at least the receiver) was made in December 1943. To tell any more about it, we'd have to see lots of photos. Most likely it is an arsenal rebuilt rifle, probably worth ~ $700. But, there is a slim possibility that it is mostly or completely original, in which case it would be worth considerably more.

Hi there...and congrats...sounds like a nice one, and from my limited knowledge of Garands the Winchesters are normally a bit more valuable. Mark is now on MAusercentral and is a moderator , MDC is the handle he uses I think. He IS the man, so give him a shot over there.
