Marlin I.D. Question

I have a Marlin 39A with a "P" prefix serial number P7075. The Blue Book says this was produced in 1957 but had no pistol grip cap. The pistol grip cap was 51 to 53 and had Ballard rifeling. Micro Groove started in 54. with no cap. This one has the pistol grip cap and is Micro Grooved and has the flutes in the wood at the top of the comb.

    Hello SP45...

    I have no definitive answer for you, but I will politely point out this fact... F'jestad's Blue Book is not what most people would consider an authoritative document as it pertains to minor changes or variations within a particular make & model. I highly suggest obtaining a copy of Brophy's book on Marlin firearms.

    I have Brophy's book and will save you a couple of dollars if you will tell me what you want to know. You make a statement, and it is unclear if you want to know if 1957 is correct or if F'jestad isn't.

    Looking to see if the year is correct and if Marlin might have made stocks with the pistol grip cap in 57.

    1957 is correct. Brophy does not mention the pistol grip in the text, but one of the photo captions says: "Fourth variation of the Model 39A, which had a pistol grip cap with white line spacer and sling swivels added (1957)." Whether all from 57 were this way is unclear, but it appears at least some were.
