Springfield Ultra Compact 1911 9mm
My wife just had to have one of these, so we bought one brand new in Spring of 2004...
The first 200 rounds were jam city. We used factory Winchester FMJ 9mm. She had a weak wrist problem which seemed to make the jam problem worse. Also, the slide would not lock back when the mag was empty. I read all about the magazine feed problems on the 9mm Springfield 1911s, however our mags were all the new Metalform versions, which were supposed to fix the problems.
By Fall 2004 we probably put 500 rounds through the thing, a mix of factory ammo and reloads, even some hollow points for good measure. Bang, bang, jam, bang, bang, jam. Every third or fourth round was a jam, I thought we had bought a lemon. So we put it away for the past 10 months or so.
Today I pulled it out, did a detail cleaning job on it, swabbed with solvent until the swabs didn't turn black at all, did an extra thick oil job on it, then we took it to the range...
What a great gun. We shot probably 200 rounds through it today, had 2 jams and one dimpled round. We shot all reloads, so could have just been a bad primer and a couple bulged cases. Amazing what some time, patience, and a good cleaning can do. I still need to take this gun out some more to be sure, but I have totally done a 180 on my opinion of the Springfield 1911 9mm.
Would like to hear more opinions from those of you that have these 9mm 1911s.
