sks malfunction

i was plunking with a buddy of mine and saw something that i have never seen before, as soon as he chambered a round the rifle went off and emptied the mag. what could have caused this, and what needs to be done to make this not happen again?

    Ok, all you armchair gunsmiths listen up please. I have a Yugo SKS in great cond. Great shooter, clean to death, my go to 7.62 rifle. Fired many rounds thru it without issues, until today! Hungarian and Wolf ammo used today, total 60 rounds. This problem happened three times in those 60 rds. After firing a round, the spent case would eject and the rifle would cycle and load another cartridge. At this time the trigger could be pulled all the way to the rear with no effort and no firing of the new round. If I pull the bolt handle all the way back, ejecting that round and loading another then the rifles operation would be ok. I reloaded that round for the next fill up and it shot ok. This happened three times on separate occasions. This rifle has always been good to me. The gas system is in good condition. I understand this firearm, but not this issue right now. Any takers??     Probably the fireing pin in the bolt. The fireing pin in the SKS isn't spring loaded. The only thing that controls it, is inertia. If the channel it rides in, in the bolt is dirty or fouled with cosmoline. The fireing pin can be stuck all the way out, in fireing position.

    Remove the bolt from the SKS. Drive out the fireing pin retainer. Remove the fireing pin. Clean the external surfaces of the fireing pin and the fireing pin channel in the bolt. When you replace the Fireing pin, it should move freely when you shake the bolt.

    You need to make sure that you use ammo that has hard military style primers. Most foreign surplus ammo has hard primers. US commercial hunting ammo is loaded with standard large rifle primers that may be too soft.

    The other posts have spelled out the most likely cause, please get it fixed.

    I'M DARN GLAD TO SEE YOU DID NOT TYPE THAT SOME POOR GUY GOT DEAD IN THE PROCESS OF THE GUN GETTING EMPTIED.

    THERE WAS JUST SUCH A POST HERE LAST YEAR, I THINK IT WAS A GUY KILLED BY 3 ROUNDS THROUGH THE BACK BY THE SAME TYPE OF SLAM FIRE.

    that is very sad indeed, one must ALWAYS remember saftey first. (which by the way was on when the incident happened). thankfully noone was injured, (thought buddy was gonna crap his pants tho, and he was sure that i had) we were standing side by side rifle down range. Found what appeared to be some dried? cosmoline it was really hard stuff took a while to dissolve, around the firing pin. seems to be working great now. Thanks everyone.

    Boil the bolt in hot water for an hour just to be sure all the cosmoline melted away.
