My reference notes that the H & R's "break barrel" 410 shotgun was known as the "Model 1915", "#5 frame". This was the conventional long barrel shotgun with a wooden stock. Chambered for the then standard 2 1/2 shell. They also made a similar short barrel version known as the "Handy-Gun". This is now classified as a NFA firearm and is of doubtfull legally unless previously registered prior or during the 1968 amnesty.

Whoa! First check the chamber length. Most of the H&Rs with that marking had 2" chambers. 0 -

it is not a rifle but a 410 bore shotgun that will also shoot the 44 caliber shot cartridge. do not fire 44 caliber rifle or pistol ammo in this shotgun. models marked with 410-44 were only offered in the model 1915 (later changed in 1931 to No. 5)manufactured 1916-1941. the model 1915 is an improved version of the older model 1905 small frame that was manufactured between 1905 and 1916. the model 1915 is considered a smokeless powder model but it does not have a self-adjusting barrel latch so use caution. the early model 1905s had 2 inch chambers and never offered in what we call the 410 bore of today. the model 1915 have 2 1/2 inch chambers and was H&R first 410 bore single barrel shotgun. the marking 410-44 was only used between 1916 and 1921 after that they were marked 410-14mm and finally about 1932 just 410 ( the 410 3 inch chamber was not available until very late in production and will be marked as a 3 inch chamber)
