Need suggestions for customizing a M-Nagant M91/30
Hello folks, i'm a fairly new member to gunbroker.com and Guns & whatnot in general. I recently made my first purchase in the world of Military Surplus, which was a Mosin Nagant M91/30 (Non Carbine) rifle. It was in crappy condition as far as the stock and some of the external metal parts, but I have refinished the stock, and stripped & reblued most everything on it except the barrel & reciever. I checked the bore, and was astonished by how good the rifling was, very clean and strong looking. After sweating out as much cosmoline and finish off of the barrel & reciever, and taking the gun down, there was a bit of pitting on it, but I blew most of it away with a belted wirebrush. I'm curious on whether or not to strip the barrel & receiver and reblue it, but the metals finsh looks almost brown/green in some light. Is it a different kind of blue, or something completely different? But anyway, on to the topic title.
After firing the rifle at a few various targets, I've found that it is quite an accurate piece of work. However, With no scope, and my firing eye being in not so good condition, I'm asking for suggestions on customizing the rifle both for looks, and general tune up improvement. I was kind of mislead into purchasing a muzzle brake for the M44 Carbine, and found that it wouldn't fit at all. Do they make a brake specifically for the M91/30? Also, I purchased a neat little universal bipod for it, and it just added alot of stability to it when groud firing. I'm just curious in some of the available customizations available for the Nagant and what people would recomend. While i'm not interested in really changing the stock, feel free to post any and all stocks/modifications that are available. I'm thinking of purchasing a Carbine M44 to go along with its big brother so to speak. Well, hope to get some responses pretty soon! Thanks.

Get a scope scout mount? I havnt tried one yet, but I itend to. I have played with several of these rifles and reload for them. 0 -
I've seen several mounts for the Nagant. I'm really looking for one that doesn't involve modding the gun in anyway, other than removing parts that can be later re-installed just to keep the gun's classic value. 0 -
I like the mount from B-Square I've used one on a M44 scout gun they also make one for the 91/30 it replaces the rear sight base and clamps to the barrel/rear sight dovetail. It requires no modifications to your rifle. This is a really good site full of helpfull tips from cleaninbg to adjusting the trigger.

This guy Darrell makes a scout-type mount for a MN91/30 that a lot of people on the Parallax forum like.

The old finish may be phosphate or parkerized (same thing). If you search phosphate there is a home kit available. My son works as a plater and says it should be pretty easy.

While I do not have the M91/30, I do have an M44 that is scoped with the POSP 8x scope and bent bolt. Some photos below just to give you some ideas. I like the idea of moding the Mosin Nagant as a Scout-type rifle, described in the above link.
